London bombings: Short Thoughts
http://www.werenotafraid.com (useful only for the short-run)
Some of the links I checked looking for "answers" after the bombs in London (I didn't find any, but....):
{article a} Quell'ideologia islamica nichilista che legittima i massacri, Magdi Allam, Corriere della Sera (in Italian)
{article b} It's a muslim problem, it needs a muslim solution, Thomas L. Friedman, New York Times
{link} Institute for the Secularisation of Islamic Society
{article c} Europe's angry muslims, Robert S. Leiken, Foreign Affairs July/Aug 2005 also in Italian
the {items} above suggest the following short thoughts (... some are also an "hypocrisy"):
{1}: Islam is a religion compatible with liberal democracies {hypocrisy}
{2}: Immigrants to European countries are integrated {hypocrisy}
{3}: Those that died in London's bombing are people, those that die every single day in attacks in Iraq are numbers
{4}: Terrorists are
indirectly supported by part of the public opinion (many
Muslim and some democratic and liberal people
that after nine-eleven thought that U.S. deserved it)
{5}: Poverty is the root of terrorism {partly hypocrisy}
{6}: Civilized (ask Tony Blair what it means) countries have to fight to keep their values {hypocrisy... see 7 and 8}
{7}: Values such as democracy and freedom have to be defended with all our means
{8}: Values such as:
-imposing free markets with the force (military or economic),
-depletion of poor countries' natural resources
-collusion with corrupted and non democratic governments
-free markets are good for us but protectionism is better for trade with developing countries
-our system is the best, we do not need alternatives
-democracy is good only if election are won by those we like
have to be changed
{9}: Some features of the Islamic culture and tradition help terrorists to gain strenght
